AI and Deepfake
This week, I have been using important digital literacy technologies by researching for information about internet safety issues, especially AI and Deepfake. Basically, it shows how AI affects people in the future. I used CRAP test to increase the credibility of my writing.
What is AI and Deepfake?
AI: Artificial Intelligence. AI is a series of technologies that enable computers to perform various advanced functions. It analyzes data and provides many functions. (Google)
Deepfake: A form of AI, deep learning to make images of fake events. Deepfake is named deepfake because they use a form of AI called deep learning to create fake pictures, videos, voices. (The Guardian)
What is the issue? Who is affected?
Digital technology, and services have long been used to promote gender-based violence such as sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Related crimes have become more widespread with the advent of deepfakes. Deepfakes are primarily produced for malicious purposes, including dissemination of disinformation, cyber-bullying, child sexual abuse, and image-based abuse. Image-based abuse in particular can cause significant damage to victims, such as anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, social isolation. In the case of public figures, deepfakes and other forms of online abuse can likewise lead to reduced career prospects, withdrawal from public life, and negative mental health consequences. Ninety-six percent of the victims of deepfake pornography are women. Most of them are public figures.
Article
This article deals with the recent spread of Taylor Swift's deepfake images on social media. It is a type of digital abuse against women, emphasizing that anyone can be targeted as deepfake technology becomes increasingly sophisticated. The article argues that legal action and technical action are needed, especially against non-consistent deepfake pornography. It also points out that addressing fundamental issues such as gender inequality is also important. It also argues that the company's safety design, such as watermarking, is also important to reduce the problem.
What is CRAP test?
I used this method because when I used CRAP test for that article, I thought it was all appropriate, and I thought it was easy to check.
First, the article was written on February 1, 2024, so it is suitable for Currency.
Second, it covers about the deepfake, so it's good for Relevance.
Next, the authors of this article, Nicola Henry and Ellis Witt, are professors and researchers, and are suitable for Authority because they were active until one or three months ago.
Finally, this article is suitable for Purpose because it points to the problems of deepfakes and also presents solutions.

Conclusion
Not everything created by deepfakes is harmful. For example, in the latest Indiana Jones movie, you can use deepfakes to see Harrison Ford 40 years younger. However, today's deepfakes are widely used in crime, so special measures are needed.
